Welcome to Translately — a small experiment in reading, translating, and sharing stories.

I’ve always enjoyed Tamil short stories, and this little space is an attempt to explore them in another language. I’ll be translating stories from Tamil into English, one at a time, as a way of learning more about both languages, literature, and the craft of translation.

This is nothing more than an experimental learning process. I’m not a professional translator, and these translations are certainly not intended to be definitive versions of the original works. I’m simply trying to understand how a story, its words, emotions, humour, and nuances can travel from one language to another — and learning along the way.

There will undoubtedly be things I get wrong, phrases I could have translated better, and nuances I may miss. That is part of the experiment.
